"Supernature" (Egret in 7th Ward Lot), 2023

This particular work features a vacant lot in downtown New Orleans which have historically functioned as spaces used by those on the margins of society. Vacant lots along with other liminal urban spaces have served as important locations away from the watchful eye of society.

Echoing the visual vernacular of homosocial spaces, I transformed this photograph through a variety of two-dimensional and sculptural processes. In this series, I make direct formal references to tinsel-like streamers often found in gay and queer bars by printing my photos onto transparent film and cutting them by hand into quarter-inch strips. In an attempt to further tie these works back to the queer spaces they emerged from, I mount them to custom aluminum LED light frames that work in both fully lit and darkened exhibition spaces.
